Oilfield services company MicroSeismic has launched a new completions evaluation system that offers on-the-spot fracture modelling and dynamic stimulated reservoir volume (SRV) estimation.

The new Real-Time Completions Evaluation tool also offers end of stage estimated ultimate recovery (EUR) and drainage estimation, as well as rapid stress analysis.

Operators can use the new real-time features in microseismic monitoring to enhance production rates and recovery factors.

MicroSeismic chief technology officer Dr Michael Thornton said: “MicroSeismic’s Completions Evaluation workflow is rapidly gaining traction in the industry as our clients realise the benefits of this analysis.

“Bringing this analysis into the realm of real-time allows a more comprehensive picture of the frac and expected well performance while the treatment is underway. This kind of insight at the time of completion means better decisions, earlier, and that goes to our client’s bottom line.”

As and when the fracture events are detected, the tool uses automatic moment tensor inversion (Auto-MTI) to capture the dynamics of the rock failure in real-time.

The moment tensors provide information regarding the geometry of fractures and the stresses that produced them.

Real-time fracture modelling assists in the determination of fracture size and orientation, while real-time dynamic SRV estimation allows real-time analysis by modelling fracture intensity and induced permeability.

According to the company, real-time microseismic monitoring enables operators to make better and more economic decisions.

The solution is expected to give operators the opportunity to change completions activities at a faster rate.
