Norway's Petroleum Safety Authority (PSA) has ordered Italian oil firm Eni Norge to keep output halted from Goliat field in the Barents Sea until the company identifies the cause of a power outage that hit the field.
PSA has issued a notification of order to the company concerning identification and implementation of necessary measures following the power failure.
On 27 August, Goliat suffered a power outage and production was stopped as a result. Eni is in the process of investigating the incident. Goliat also suffered a similar incident on 10 May.
PSA order noted: “Pursuant to the Framework Regulations, Section 69, with reference to the Management Regulations, Section 22 concerning the handling of nonconformities, we order Eni to identify and implement necessary measures following the incident of 27 August 2016 in order to achieve compliance with health, safety and environmental legislation.
“A plan for the work of identifying and implementing measures is to be presented to the PSA by 5 September 2016.”
After completing the investigation, Eni is required to submit a binding, time-delimited schedule with deadlines for implementing corrective measures following the incident.
The company has also been asked to present descriptions of any compensatory measures to be deployed until the non-conformity has been rectified.
