Oman’s state-owned Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production (OOCEP) has completed the loading of the first shipment of crude oil processed at Musandam gas plant.

The Tsuruga tanker lifted about 300,000 barrels of crude from Musandam terminal for crude oil export and departed the single point mooring after completing the loading operation.

Musandam gas plant project director engineer Khalifa Al Makhmari said: “The achievement of this very significant event marks the MGP Terminal as the second Omani crude export terminal after Mina Al Fahal, on the international crude oil trade routes.

“We expect Musandam gas plant, with its wide range of oil and gas processing and export capabilities, to be a major contributor to the refining and exporting of crude oil and gas in the sultanate.”

The plant processes production fluids from the nearby offshore fields and has a capacity to process up to 20,000 barrels of crude.

Furthermore, Musandam has a processing capacity of 45 million ft³ of gas and 75 tonnes of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) per day.

The Musandam terminal is located on the west coast of the Musandam peninsula, an Omani enclave.

OOCEP’s other oil export terminal at Mina al-Fahal is located about 350km southeast, near Muscat, Platts reported.

The terminal loads crude and oil products from the nearby 85,000 b/d Mina al-Fahal refinery onto tankers at the port by sub-sea pipelines.
