Origin Energy and Sasol have formed a joint venture to explore coal seam gas (CSG) in Botswana.
The new joint venture, Kubu Energy Resources, signed an agreement with Sekaname to acquire three prospecting licences in Botswana’s central province.
Licences PL134/2010, PL135/2010, PL136/2010 cover a total area of 3,000 square kilometres.
Origin and Sasol will conduct exploration activities in the licence areas during the next two years to determine the potential quantity of CSG available.
The first phase of exploration includes an airborne magnetic survey, extraction, sampling of borehole cores and the drilling of test wells.
