Mexico’s state-run oil company Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) has reported a fire on the offshore Akal-H satellite platform in Campeche in the southern Gulf of Mexico.
The company said that the accident took place due to a leakage of oil and gas at the time when three workers were performing routine inspections.
There were no reports of any injuries on the remotely operated platform and the workers were immediately evacuated.
According to local media, there was an explosion and a fire on the Akal-H satellite platform, which is part of the Akal field complex.
Pemex data revealed that in 2014 the Akal field produced an average of 177,000 barrels per day (bpd), Reuters reported.
Pemex said that its specialist staff continue to address the contingency for the oil and gas leak that was detected at the Akal-H satellite platform.
