Polish Oil and Gas Company (PGNiG) has increased its share of the regasification capacity at the President Lech Kaczynski liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal in Swinoujscie to 100%, following the reservation of an additional 35%.
With the increased capacity, PGNiG aims to scale up import opportunities and meet the growing demand for gas in Poland and Central Europe.
The company currently has 65% regasification capacity, with the additional capacity available from January next year.
PGNiG management board president Piotr Wozniak said: “We have signed the second long-term contract for LNG with Qatargas and we received three spot supplies. Demand for gas in Poland is growing. We are also increasing export of the commodity to Ukraine.
“Regasification capacity of the LNG terminal in Swinoujscie currently used by PGNiG became insufficient. That is why we decided to increase the reservation.”
At present, the LNG terminal has a regasification capacity of 5bcm per annum.
