Qatar has inaugurated the $1bn Jetty Boil-Off Gas Recovery (JBOG) project in Ras Laffan Industrial City (RLIC).

The project will recover 29 billion standard cubic feet (bscf) of gas per year, enough to power 300,000 homes. It will reduce gas flaring by 90% at the six LNG loading berths at Ras Laffan.

Qatargas leads and operates the JBOG development on behalf of Qatar Petroleum and RasGas. The development is part of the Common Facilities Projects at RLIC.

"The JBOG Project is considered a landmark project for the State of Qatar."

The main shareholders of the JBOG project are Qatar Petroleum, ExxonMobil, Total, ConocoPhillips and Shell.

Construction of the project started in mid-2011, with the majority of the site work undertaken by several construction contractors in Qatar.

The JBOG facilities started operations in the first week of October 2014. About 100 million standard cubic feet per day of natural gas was recovered and used in the LNG production plants as fuel.
