North Oil Company (NOC) has selected Ramboll to conduct a pre-feed study for three new wellhead platforms at Al-Shaheen field off Qatar's north-eastern coast in the Arabian Gulf.
Situated 80km north of Doha, Al-Shaheen includes an area of 2.214km² and currently produces nearly 300,000bpd of oil. The field covers nearly 40% of Qatar’s total oil output.
The objective of the pre-feed study is to secure production at the three new wellhead platforms and optimise their recovery potential.
Ramboll Oil and Gas Middle East managing director Tommy Amstrup Laursen said: “Although this is not the first time Ramboll is involved on Al-Shaheen, we are extremely honoured to work on this ambitious field development once again.”
“Qatar has one of the fastest growing economies in the world and Al-Shaheen significantly contributes to the country’s economy and energy security.
“Therefore we have prepared carefully and thoroughly to be part of this new initiative. I believe that our past experience along with a strong local presence and multidisciplinary approach put us in the position to win this award.”
Earlier, the company completed a detailed brownfield design on Al-Shaheen field.
Maersk Oilwas in charge of the development of the field since 1992.
From July this year, NOC, a joint venture between Qatar Petroleum and Total, will operate the field for the next 25 years.
