Asia had the highest refining capacity of 4,094 barrels a day (mbd) under maintenance globally in this year's second quarter, according to a report by GlobalData.

Titled ‘Q2 2017 Global Refinery Maintenance Review – India and the US Incur Most Maintenance in the Quarter’, the report provides an overview of refinery maintenance across the world.

Asia is followed by North America with 1,872mbd under maintenance, followed by the Middle East with 736mbd.

In terms of refining capacity under planned maintenance, Asia, North America and the Middle East lead globally with 3,708mbd, 1,274mbd and 736mbd respectively.

North America had the highest refining capacity under unplanned maintenance at 598mbd, followed by Asia and the Caribbean with 386mbd and 335mbd respectively.

Countries with the highest refining capacity under maintenance (both planned and unplanned) included the US (1,431mbd), Japan (1,048mbd) and India (1,012mbd). The three countries also lead in terms of highest refining capacity under planned maintenance, with the US having a capacity of 1,163mbd, Japan with 1,048mbd and India with 1,012mbd.

In terms of operators, GS Caltex Corporation had the highest refining capacity under maintenance (for both total and planned) at 786mbd, followed by Kuwait National Petroleum Company K.S.C. (KNPC) with 736mbd and BP with 525mbd.

The three refineries also lead globally in terms of the highest refining capacity under planned maintenance.

PDVSA had the highest refining capacity under unplanned maintenance at 522mbd, followed by Pemex with 330mbd and Singapore Refining Company with 290mbd.
