A total of 51 floating production storage and offloading units (FPSOs) are expected to commence operations by 2020, with the majority of them in Brazil, according to a report by GlobalData.
Titled ’Q4 2016 Global FPSO Industry Outlook – South America Continues to Lead in Planned FPSO Deployments’, the report projects Brazil to deploy the highest number of planned FPSOs by 2020, followed by the UK with six, Angola with five and Nigeria with four.
In terms of continents, South America is expected to have the highest number of planned FPSO additions by 2020 with 21, followed by Africa with 11, Europe with eight, Asia with six and North America with two.
In terms of operators, Petróleo Brasileiro will lead the global FPSO industry by deploying 15 out of the 21 planned FPSOs in South America by 2020, followed by Royal Dutch Shell and Bumi Armada Offshore Holdings with three and two FPSOs respectively.
Since the previous report's publication last November, one new FPSO (Ibhubesi) was announced, and the Ande Ande Lumut FPSO was postponed from 2018 to 2019. In addition, the Rosebank FPSO was cancelled.
No new FPSOs have been stalled since the publication of the previous report.
