The first half of 2016 saw Arab Maritime Petroleum Transport Company announce two new crude oil tankers, followed by Kyoei Tanker Company Limited and Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd announcing one each, according to a report by GlobalData.
Titled ‘H1 2016 Oil Tanker, LNG Carrier, and LPG Tanker Outlook – Gener8, Teekay, and Petredec Lead Global Tanker Buildout’, the report reveals that the crude oil tankers announced by Arab Maritime Petroleum Transport Company have a deadweight tonnage (DWT) of 158,000t each and are scheduled to start operations in 2017 and 2018.
The leading operators in terms of planned oil tanker DWT are Gener8 Maritime Inc. Maran Tankers Management Inc. and Tsakos Energy Navigation Ltd.
The planned DWT of the three operators is approximately 3.319Mt, 2.212Mt and 1.619Mt respectively.
Teekay LNG Partners Lp (3.46 million m³), Mitsui OSK Lines Limited (3,032,934 m³) and Maran Gas Maritime Inc (2.256 million m³) are the top three operators with new planned LNG carrier storage capacity.
An announcement for two new planned LNG carriers was made by both SK Shipping Co. Ltd. and Maran Gas Maritime Inc. in H1 2016.
The GlobalData report states that Petredec Limited (610,800m³), BW Group (336,000m³) and Exmar Lpg Bvba (228,000m³) are the leaders in planned LPG tanker storage capacity. Petredec Limited announced four new LPG tankers namely, Parthia (78,700m³), Pinza (78,700m³), Dancing Brave (22,000m³) and Desert Orchid (22,000m³).
Nippon Yusen Kaisha Line, BW Gas ASA, and Hyproc Shipping Company also announced two new LPG tankers each in H1 2016.
