Rose Petroleum has signed a drilling rig contract with Beeman Drilling Services to spud its first well at Uinta basin location in Utah, US.

The rig will be used to drill the State 1-34 well, which will target the Mancos shale and test a deeper conventional target.

The rig, which is anticipated to be mobilised in mid-December, features 2 x 800hhp pumps with a 300,000lbs hook load capacity from the derrick.

"The signing of the drilling contract is yet another step closer to the spudding of our first well."

Rose Petroleum CEO Matthew Idiens said: "The signing of the drilling contract is yet another step closer to the spudding of our first well.

"We are now only awaiting the final permit approval and are working closely with the State to achieve this within the desired timeline."

Earlier in 2014, Rose signed a farm-in agreement which allowed its subsidiary, Rose Petroleum (Utah) to acquire 75% of several oil, gas and hydrocarbon leases covering about 230,000 acres in Grand and Emery Counties, Utah, within the Paradox and Uinta basins.
