RWE Dea has indicated the presence of additional crude oil deposits near the Mittelplate oilfield along the coast of Lower Saxony, offshore Cuxhaven in Germany.

The oil firm will drill a total of four exploration wells in the Wadden Sea tidelands of Schleswig-Holstein and Lower Saxony.

The project aims to confirm the existence of assumed reserves totalling 23 million cubic metres of crude oil.

Submission of the detailed application will take place shortly in both federal states.

Wintershall and Gas de France Suez are the partners involved in the project.
