Sound Energy has made a significant gas discovery at its Tendrara licence located onshore Morocco.

The company’s first Tendrara well, TE-6 was drilled to a measured vertical depth of 2,665m and encountered approximately 28m of net gas pay in the TAGI reservoir.

Sound Energy said it has achieved a stabilised gas flow rate, post stimulation, of 17.0 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscf/d).

Sound Energy CEO James Parsons said: “I am absolutely delighted to confirm a material commercial gas discovery at Tendrara and a resounding success at the first of our three strategic plays.

"I am absolutely delighted to confirm a material commercial gas discovery at Tendrara and a resounding success at the first of our three strategic plays."

“I believe Tendrara, Meridja and the Eastern Morocco TAGI play have the potential to be a material hydrocarbon province on a regional scale and therefore to transform both Sound Energy and the Moroccan gas industry.”

Together with Schlumberger, the company now plans to proceed with the second well TE-7, which is due to spud later this month and a further outpost well TE-8, expected to spud in the fourth quarter.

Well TE-7 is located about 1.3km from TE-6 and will be drilled using sub-horizontal techniques that are expected to increase the individual well flow rate. An extended well test will subsequently be carried out.

The rig-up process at the well has been completed and drilling is expected to commence this month.

Until the results of TE-7 are confirmed, the company will suspend the TE-6 well and further expects to apply for a production concession.

Detailed engineering is planned to commence for construction of the necessary infrastructure.

Sound Energy has a net effective interest of 27.5% in the Tendrara licence.
