Statoil, Chevron Canada and Repsol E&P Canada have been awarded exploration rights in two areas of the Flemish Pass Basin, offshore Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.
The land parcels are located west of Statoil’s Mizzen discovery.
Licences were issued after a land sale by the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board.
Statoil said that it would be the operator of both licences with a 50% stake, with partners Chevron Canada and Repsol E&P Canada holding a 40% and 10%, respectively.
Statoil conducted an exploration programme at the Mizzen discovery and its Fiddlehead prospect in the Jeanne d’Arc Basin earlier this year.
