Libra Oil & Gas has awarded a contract to Technip for the supply of first flexible pipes for the Libra presalt deepwater oil field in offshore Brazil.

As part of the project, Technip will supply the pipes for the Libra Extended Well Test field in addition to high-end flexible pipes including 8in oil production, 6in service and 6in gas injection flexible pipes.

According to Technip, the latest contract will reinforce flexible pipes suitability for the ultra-deepwater and fluid harsh conditions of presalt fields in Brazil.

The project management and engineering would be carried out at Technip’s operating centre located in Rio de Janeiro.

Technip’s manufacturing sites in Vitoria and Açu, Brazil will manufacture the technological flexible pipes.

"It is the result of strong R&D and engineering efforts to overcome the presalt technical challenges using flexible pipes solution.

Delivery of the pipes is slated to start in the second half of 2016.

Technip Brazil president Adriano Novitsky said: "Technip is very proud to have been selected to supply the first pipes for the Libra development.

"It is the result of strong R&D and engineering efforts to overcome the presalt technical challenges using flexible pipes solution."

Libra Oil & Gas is a consortium led by Petrobras Netherland (40%) along with other partners including Shell (20%), Total (20%), CNOOC (10%) and CNPC (10%).

Discovered in May 2010, the Libra field is located in the Santos Basin, about 230km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro and is being drilled by Petrobras.
