Denmark-based Maersk Drilling has received a charter contract from French oil and gas firm Total for an ultra-harsh environment jack-up rig.
The four-year contract is valued at $550m and includes four one-year options.
The drilling rig will be deployed on the Hild field development in the Norwegian North Sea, subject to development approval by Norwegian authorities.
Maersk is building this drill rig as well as another in Singapore.
The rig featuring the XL Enhanced design will be delivered in 2014.
