UK-based Xodus Group has won a design and engineering services agreement for National Grid’s Grain LNG terminal, located on the Isle of Grain in Kent.
Under the three-year contract, Xodus will provide range of engineering input from feasibility, as well as conceptual capabilities to front-end engineering and design (FEED) and detailed engineering to improve the services of the terminal.
Prior to this agreement, Xodus has already completed various projects for Grain LNG.
Xodus Group operations director Alistair Porter said: "There is no doubt that LNG has proven to be a viable option in the overall energy mix and this award is a step forward in expanding our core skills in this arena.
"Our integrated engineering team, together with expertise from Chiyoda Corporation, Xodus’ majority shareholder, provides considerable LNG experience."
The Grain LNG terminal began as an LNG peak shave storage facility in 1982 and was used to support the gas supply grid at times of high demand.
In 2002, National Grid commenced work to convert the storage facility into an LNG importation terminal.
The conversion work was concluded and commissioned in July 2005 when the facility became operational.
Grain LNG has the capacity to receive and process up to 3.3 million tonnes of LNG a year.
