The training services business division of Petrofac has signed an agreement with the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) to form a joint venture (JV) to explore training opportunities across the country’s oil and gas sector.
Pursuant to the agreement, the JV will be operated by SOCAR and Petrofac on a 51:49 basis.
Under the JV, the companies will provide training and educational services for the workers of Azerbaijan’s energy sector, as well as those engaged in energy projects in other countries.
In recent years, SOCAR has installed equipment necessary for carrying out training exercises, and also increased the range of skills development offered.
Petrofac Engineering and Production Services training services global head Karim Osseiran said: “Through our joint venture we are combining our industry credentials, local knowledge and depth of capabilities. This will enable us to deliver a step-change in workforce training and competence assurance in support of SOCAR’s nationalisation agenda.”
Towards the JV, Petrofac will offer its experience of designing, building and operating unique training facilities that combine immersive technical training techniques and digital technology.

The company intends to tap the commercial potential of its training centres to provide training and certification services to personnel of foreign companies.
