US-based petroleum and natural gas exploration and production company Range Resources has started operations at the Perlak field in Northern Sumatra, Indonesia.
The company has set up the rig for the work programme at the POG-D well location.
The reopening of the first well in the work programme, POG-D, has begun and the company expects to complete it by the end of the month.
Once the reopening is completed, Range will use the rig to carry out a workover on the well.
Range Resources CEO Yan Liu said: “We are hugely excited to be announcing the commencement of operations in Indonesia, on track with the previously announced schedule.
“The Perlak field is one of the oldest producing oilfields in the world, geologically similar to our producing assets in Trinidad.
“Our objective in Indonesia this year is to reinitiate production from this mature field, commence cashflows and firm up the future development plan.”
The company noted that the rig will move to the second well (POG-E) upon completion of operations on the POG-D well.
The second well is also planned for reopening and workover.
In March, Range unveiled its agreed programme for the year, which includes the reopening of up to ten existing, previously producing wells, in addition to workovers of the POG-D and POG-E wells.
The programme also comprises geological, geophysical and integrity studies.
Through the work programme, the company intends to restart production from the oilfield and add up to 200 barrels of oil per day (bopd) of production.
