Range Resources’ drilling division Range Resources Drilling Services (RRDSL) has secured a contract from Shell’s subsidiary Shell Trinidad Central Block to work over an onshore well in Trinidad.

To fulfil the contract obligations, RRDSL will use Rig 19, which is already on location. The work includes one well and is expected to last ten days.

“We are aiming to capitalise on this recovering market by securing further contract work and establishing a solid client base during 2018.”

Purchased in 2015, the rig has a drilling capability of 1,000m and can be used for both drilling and workover operations.

Range Resources CEO Yan Liu said: “Since the acquisition of RRDSL in Q4 2017, we have embarked on an active marketing campaign, which has resulted in the first successful contract award this year.

“Having the benefit of one of the most efficient and modern rig fleets in the market, we are aiming to capitalise on this recovering market by securing further contract work and establishing a solid client base during 2018.”

Since its purchase, the rig has been used to drill the QUN 160 development well to a total depth of more than 2,000ft at the Morne Diablo field. Rig 19 also completed around 30 workovers onshore Trinidad.
