The scope of the contract includes three LNG tanks and three LNG loading berths for NFE as well as options for two LNG tanks and one LNG berth for NFS project, and all associated pipes, lines and loading lines.

Awarded on a lump sum basis, the contract represents the second major onshore EPC contract award signed for the NFE project.

Last month, QP awarded an EPC contract to a joint venture of Chiyoda and Technip for the construction of four LNG mega-trains with associated facilities for the NFE project.

Qatar Petroleum president and CEO, and Qatar Minister of State for Energy Affairs Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi said: “The award of this contract marks another concrete step towards the further development of our natural gas resources, and enhancing our position as the world’s largest, most reliable LNG producer.

“This contract provides for the expansion of existing infrastructure required to ensure the safe loading and on-time delivery of our LNG cargoes to our international customers across the globe.”

Qatar Petroleum made a final investment decision (FID) for the North Field East project with a capacity of 33 million tonnes per annum (Mmtpa) in February 2021.

To be built in Ras Laffan, north-east Qatar, the four-train LNG project will source natural gas from the offshore North Field. It is expected to increase Qatar’s LNG production capacity to 110mmtpa from 77mmtpa.

In a separate development, related to LNG, Lithuanian state-controlled energy company Ignitis Group reportedly said that it plans to complete the GIPL pipeline between Poland and Lithuania by December 2021.

The firm plans to start LNG supply to Poland from next year while giving access to pipeline gas from continental Europe to Finland, Estonia and Latvia, according to Reuters.
