Seatrium has announced a major contract win from Höegh Evi, Norway, to convert a liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier into a floating storage and regasification unit (FSRU).
The project, which involves extensive engineering and integration of various systems, is set to commence this month and expected to last for 18 months.
The contract entails transforming the LNG carrier Hoegh Gandria into an FSRU, which includes installing a regasification skid and integrating supporting cargo handling, utility, offloading, electrical and automation systems.
Hoegh Evi chief of projects Øivin Iversen said: “We are pleased to work with Seatrium on this significant project for Hoegh Evi, as we develop a floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) that will meet the highest industry standards. Seatrium’s proven track record of delivering complex projects, along with their engineering expertise and technical capabilities, make them an invaluable partner.
“Their commitment to innovation and quality will be crucial in ensuring that the FSRU meets our operational and safety requirements, while also supporting our mission to provide reliable and sustainable energy solutions. We look forward to a successful collaboration.”
This conversion will enable the repurposed vessel to meet Egypt’s growing energy demands.

By GlobalDataUpon completion, the FSRU LNG will be stationed at the LNG terminal in the Port of Sumed, Egypt, under a ten-year charter agreement between Höegh Evi and Egypt Natural Gas Holding Company.
The Hoegh Gandria, currently serving as an LNG carrier, is set to become a key component of Egypt’s energy infrastructure.
Scheduled for deployment in the fourth quarter of 2026 at the Port of Sumed, the FSRU will offer a peak LNG regasification capacity of up to one billion standard cubic feet per day, significantly bolstering Egypt’s capacity to import and regasify LNG.
Seatrium executive vice-president repairs and upgrades Alvin Gan said: “We are truly honoured to be selected by Hoegh Evi for this milestone FSRU conversion project, further cementing Seatrium’s position as a pioneer and market leader in the highly specialised FSRU conversion business.
“Our long-standing partnership with Hoegh, built on successfully delivering major repairs and retrofits for their LNG carrier fleet over the years, is a testament to the trust and confidence they have in our capabilities. This new FSRU contract not only underlines that trust but also highlights our ability to deliver technically demanding, highly complex projects with precision.”
