Oil and gas firm Sound Energy has revealed plans to commence a three-well exploration drilling programme in Eastern Morocco.
The exploration campaign is part of the company’s work programme for this year and comes after the completion of an aerial gradiometry programme and early results of the ongoing seismic surveys.
Based on the company’s internal assessment, the Eastern Morocco licences are estimated to contain exploration potential of 9-17-31 trillion cubic feet of gas originally in place in low, mid and high-case categories.
The first well is set to be drilled in July this year, while the remaining two will be taken up in September and November.
Sound Energy CEO James Parsons said: “These early results of our geophysical and geological studies underscore our confidence in the Eastern Morocco exploration potential.
“We are now moving forward with our exploration drilling programme with a view to unlock three of our largest plays.

By GlobalData“Success at any one of these wells, together with the emerging seismic results, will likely be a step change in this new hydrocarbon province, and build significant new value for shareholders.”
The proposed wells will cover multiple target types across structural and stratigraphic traps, as well as Triassic and Palaeozoic reservoirs.
The company has completed its final data processing of 22,800km² of recently acquired aerial gradiometry data and is set to conclude the modelling of the data by the end of the month.
Around 30% of a planned 2,900 line-kilometre seismic survey has been completed.
Sound Energy, along with its partners, holds an exploration acreage position around 28,548km² in Eastern Morocco, including its existing discovery at Tendrara.
