Oil and gas exploration firm Strike Energy has completed drilling operations at its Jaws-1 project in Australia’s Cooper Basin.
The Jaws-1 horizontal well was drilled to a total measured depth of 2,880m, while the horizontal section of the wellbore was placed within the siltstone interburden beneath the Vu Upper and above the Vu Lower coal seams.
The drilling campaign achieved an intercept in the vertical well.
Gamma-ray logs and vertical stratigraphic calibration indicate that the wellbore will be less than 2m underneath the Vu Upper coal seam.
To allow the well to be hydraulically stimulated before final completion and installation of artificial lift pumps, the company is set to run the liner and fracture stimulation sleeves into the wellbore.
An indirect vertical fracture completion (IVFC) technique will be used to fracture stimulate the Vu Upper coal from below the seam.
The drilling campaign of the Jaws-1 project wells is being carried out by Halliburton in partnership with Ensign.
Strike Energy noted that the horizontal well is part of the two-well appraisal campaign aimed at proving commercial flow rates of gas and evaluate the quality of its Southern Cooper Basin Gas Project (SCBGP) in PEL96.
The company operates the PEL96 licence with a 66.67% interest, while Energy World owns the remaining 33.33%.
