Texas LNG has obtained a draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) for its proposed two-train liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility in the Port of Brownsville, Texas.

The receipt of the DEIS further de-risks the project and represents a key milestone in its advancement towards a final investment decision (FID).

Texas LNG expects to make an FID on the first two million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) phase of the project next year.

The final environmental impact statement (FEIS) for the project is anticipated to be granted by 15 March 2019, while the deadline for the federal authorisation decision is 13 June.

“This project will bring jobs and investment to Cameron County and deliver clean, safe, abundant Texas natural gas energy to the world.”

Texas LNG founder and CEO Vivek Chandra said: “We are very pleased with the DEIS report conclusions, and appreciate the hard work and effort involved in the generation and compilation of the DEIS, especially from FERC and all the supporting agencies, including the US Department of Energy, US Coast Guard, US Department of Transportation, US Army Corps of Engineers, US Environmental Protection Agency, US Fish and Wildlife Service, National Park Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and Federal Aviation Administration, and others that have been involved in the process.”

Samsung Engineering, which is a minority equity owner in Texas LNG, will handle engineering, construction and procurement.

The export facility will be constructed on a 625-acre site strategically located on the Port of Brownsville’s deepwater ship channel.

It is designed to export 4Mpta of LNG to established and developing markets, with first production expected in 2023.

Texas LNG founder and chief operating officer Langtry Meyer said: “This project will bring jobs and investment to Cameron County and deliver clean, safe, abundant Texas natural gas energy to the world.”
