TGS and Petroleum Geo-Services (PGS) have secured a new 3D multi-client survey project in the Norwegian side of the Barents Sea.

Expected to be completed in September, the Nansen 3D Geostreamer survey will include a 6,100 km² area in an active APA region of the Hammerfest Basin.

The project is expected to enhance imaging of the already identified discoveries, as well as help to locate new prospects in mature and new plays.

TGS CEO Kristian Johansen said: “Nansen 3D will expand TGS’ data coverage in the Barents Sea where we have a strong track record of success.

“This project will provide modern, high-quality seismic data to an area that is highly relevant for exploration in the current and upcoming APA rounds.”

In addition to acquiring data from the deep exploration prospects in the basin, the survey will include shallow targets situated on the basin flanks and platforms.

The project will see the deployment of PGS’ Ramform Atlas, which will tow an ultra-high-density 3D configuration with a 16m x 56.25m x 7,000m setup.

To ensure optimal performance of full waveform inversion (FWI), three streamers are towed with 10km offsets in the project.

The overall project is customised to leverage the potential of an advanced PSDM and FWI processing workflow.

TGS will process the acquired data utilising Clari-Fi broadband technology.

The fast-track data is expected to be available in the first quarter of next year, while final data will be published in the final quarter.
