GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company, has revealed its league tables for the top ten legal advisers by value and volume in the oil and gas sector for Q1 2023.

Vinson & Elkins and Kirkland & Ellis emerged as the top M&A legal adviser by value and volume, respectively, in the sector during the period.

Vinson & Elkins advised on a total of $8.5bn worth of deals, while Kirkland & Ellis advised on a total of 13 deals.

GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose said: “Kirkland & Ellis and Vinson & Elkins were the only advisers with double-digit deal volume in Q1 2023 and there was a close competition between these two firms for the top position by volume. Vinson & Elkins fell short of just one deal from occupying the top position by volume and settled for the second position by this metric with 12 deals.

“Similarly, Kirkland & Ellis, apart from leading by volume, also occupied the third position by value in Q1 2023.”

According to the  financial deals database of GlobalData, Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton secured the second position in the value table by advising on $5.8bn worth of deals, followed by Kirkland & Ellis with $4.4bn, Bracewell with $4bn, and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld with $4bn.
