Dutch engineering company Twister has launched a joint development programme with Petronas to use Twister technology for the monetisation and processing of acid gas fields containing large amounts of CO2.

Under the programme, the companies will develop, fabricate and test a skid-mounted Crystallizer Vessel for qualification.

The test is intended to confirm the functionality and prove the concept of melting CO2 solids, as well as produce liquid CO2 ready for reinjection.

The Crystallizer vessel resembles the Twister Hydrate Separator given that both technologies are capable of handling a solid phase.

However, the difference lies in the fact that the Crystallizer vessel operates in a low-temperature cryogenic environment.

According to the company, the qualification test is expected to take place in the second quarter of this year in Petronas’ UTP facilities in Malaysia.

“Under the programme, the companies will develop, fabricate and test a skid-mounted Crystallizer Vessel for qualification.”

The qualification test is touted as a significant component of the joint technology programme, which includes the development of the Twister Supersonic Separator for CO2 removal.

Twister serves the upstream and midstream oil and gas sectors, offering solutions in natural gas processing and separation.

Through its separation capabilities, the company intends to boost production, streamline processes, and deliver high-yield gas processing for increased revenues.

The Twister Supersonic Separator is a gas conditioning solution that undertakes condensation and separation at supersonic velocity.

The solution causes reduced weight and plot space on platforms, leading to nearly 50% of savings in a total platform investment against alternative technologies.
