US-based oilfield service company Weatherford International has commercially launched a newly integrated wellbore pressure management system that will assist in undertaking onshore drilling operations.
The PressurePro control system comprises a fully integrated rotating control device (RCD) and choke system.
It integrates the SafeShield 5M RCD, which has a 5,000 psi rating, with the PressurePro set-point choke.
Applications that can use the system include managed pressure drilling, underbalanced drilling and foam drilling applications.
Weatherford International drilling and evaluation global segment president Etienne Roux said: “The PressurePro system enables operators to more easily and reliably control wellbore pressure during onshore drilling.
“By automating choke adjustments, the system reduces the number of people on the rig floor and improves health, safety and environmental outcomes.”

By GlobalDataAccording to the company, the PressurePro system comes with a user-friendly interface and semi-automated functionality.
Furthermore, the company noted that the system does not require specialised personnel, continual supervision or manual adjustments.
Prior to the drilling campaign, the user needs to input the desired pressure set point.
Thereafter, during drilling, the system is said to automatically detect changes in downhole pressure and instantly adjust the choke to ensure wellbore pressure is maintained within ±5 psi of the set point.
Weatherford operates in more than 90 countries and has a network of about 860 locations, including manufacturing, service, research and development, and training facilities.
