US-based exploration company Zion Oil & Gas has signed an agreement with Hungary’s Acoustic Geophysical Services (AGS) to start a 3D seismic survey in Israel.
Zion also reported that the state’s transport ministry has formally approved the importation of seismic source vehicles.
ASG has started equipment mobilisation in Europe to the port of Koper, Slovenia.
Zion Oil & Gas COO Robert Dunn said: “We estimate that the vessels carrying the trucks and equipment will arrive by the end of August.
“Barring any unforeseen circumstances, we expect the equipment to be on location within the first few weeks of September.”
The company also reported the completion of infrastructure mapping and geophone locations in and around local towns.

Zion Oil & Gas president Bill Avery said: “We believe it will be the largest high-density land 3D seismic acquired to date in Israel.”
According to the company, geophysical survey crew is eyeing mid-August to start staking out the programme, while the data acquisition crew is expected to start equipment testing by 7 September.
Last month, Zion signed binding agreements in Israel for 3D seismic landowner permitting and consulting services.
In February, the company encountered oil at its Megiddo-Jezreel well in Israel. It identified free-flowing hydrocarbons while circulating and drilling mud during the current open-hole wireline logging and subsequent reaming operations.
Founded in 2000, Zion is focused on oil and gas exploration in the Megiddo-Jezreel onshore petroleum exploration licence covering 99,000 acres.
