ADNOC Logistics and Services (L&S), a subsidiary of ADNOC, has signed a contract worth approximately $900m (Dh3.3bn) with Jiangnan Shipyard for the construction of four new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The order is aimed at expanding ADNOC L&S’ fleet to meet increasing global demand for LNG transport.
Jiangnan Shipyard is a subsidiary of state-owned China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).
Each vessel will be designed to carry 175,000m³. The LNG carriers are scheduled for delivery in 2029.
The contract was signed in Shanghai, China. The signing event was attended by representatives including ADNOC managing director and group CEO Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, United Arab Emirates Ambassador to China Hussain Al Hammadi and CSSC general manager Wang Guoqiang.
Abdulkareem Al Masabi, CEO of ADNOC L&S, and Xiao Wenlin, CEO of Jiangnan Shipyard, signed the agreement.
The addition of these four vessels increases ADNOC L&S’ LNG new-build programme to 18 ships in total.
ADNOC L&S has previously received six LNG carriers, each with a capacity of 175,000m³, from Jiangnan Shipyard under a contract valued at Dh4.4bn.
Of these, five vessels have been placed on contracts with ADNOC Gas lasting up to 15 years and have been contributing to predictable revenues since May 2026.
The newly ordered LNG carriers are also expected to operate under long-term charter agreements, aimed at supporting consistent revenue streams and maintaining energy supplies to international markets.
ADNOC L&S also recently marked the delivery of the first of four very large ammonia carriers (VLACs) from Jiangnan Shipyard.
In 2024, AW Shipping, a joint venture between ADNOC L&S and Wanhua Chemical Group, ordered four VLACs and nine very large ethane carriers, valued at Dh 7bn, with two of them delivered in 2025.
A separate order from ADNOC L&S includes eight LNG carriers under construction at Samsung Heavy Industries and Hanwha Ocean. This represents an investment of roughly Dh9.2bn, with the carriers set for delivery from 2028 and to be placed on 20-year charters to ADNOC Gas.
Since 2022, ADNOC L&S, including its part in the AW Shipping programme, has allocated more than Dh18.36bn to expand its shipping fleet.
The expanded fleet is intended to support ADNOC’s wider LNG growth plans and its global marketing and trading platform, with a target of reaching a combined 47 million tonnes per annum of marketable LNG by 2035.
