Asia to drive most of the global bisphenol A capacity additions by 2030

Strong industrial demand propels BPA capacity additions in the region through 2030.

GlobalData Energy November 20 2025

Asia is poised to spearhead the global bisphenol A capacity additions by 2030 due to strong and increasing domestic demand. Bisphenol A, also commonly known as BPA, is a colorless industrial chemical frequently used in production of polycarbonate plastics and epoxy resins. It finds applications in industries such as household plastics, automotive, electronics, and construction.

Asia is anticipated to add BPA production capacity of 2.69 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) during 2025 to 2030 from ten planned and and announced projects. China, India, and South Korea are the only countries that account for the entire capacity additions in the region. China is poised to lead, with a capacity of 1.91mtpa from eight upcoming projects by 2030.

However, the highest capacity addition in the region is expected from an announced project in India - 'Reliance Industries Jamnagar Bisphenol A Plant'. The project is in the Gujarat state and is expected to start operations in 2030 with a capacity of 0.50mtpa. Reliance O2C Ltd is the operator of this project while Reliance Industries Ltd holds the 100% equity stake.

The next highest capacity addition is from the 'SABIC Fujian Petrochemical Zhangzhou Bisphenol A Plant'. Located in Fujian province, China, this project is expected to come online next year with a capacity of 0.27mtpa. The other major upcoming projects in the region are the 'CNOOC and Shell Petrochemicals Company Huizhou Bisphenol A Plant' in China, and the 'Lotte-GS Chemical Yeosu Bisphenol A Plant' in South Korea. Each of these projects are expected to witness a capacity addition of 0.24mtpa during the outlook period.

Other than Asia, the former Soviet Union (FSU) is the only other region that is expected to witness capacity additions by 2030. The capacity addition in the FSU is from an announced project in Russia - 'Omsky Kauchuk Omsk Bisphenol A Plant'. Located in Omsk, this project is expected to commence operations in 2030 with a capacity of 0.12mtpa.
