Baker Hughes has announced a multi-year contract with Petrobras, extending the deployment of the Blue Marlin and Blue Orca stimulation vessels.

This agreement, resulting from an open tender, aims to optimise offshore oil and gas production in Brazil's post and pre-salt fields by providing advanced chemical treatments and associated services.

The Blue Marlin and Blue Orca vessels are equipped to deliver chemical treatments to stimulate wells, enhancing production in various basins.

These services are crucial for both brownfield and greenfield developments, contributing to increased efficiency and output, and will also support well construction through gravel pack and frac pack operations.

The vessels' onboard laboratories, high-pressure pumping systems and substantial chemical storage enable them to engineer custom treatments for each well.

They can perform multiple operations without needing to return to port, reducing downtime and enhancing the productivity of offshore assets.

Baker Hughes oilfield services & equipment executive vice-president Amerino Gatti said: “Stimulation vessels are critical for optimising production and limiting costly downtime in offshore fields.

This latest award further reinforces our Mature Assets Solutions strategy, enabling us to extend life of field, enhance recovery and deliver greater value for our customers.”

This contract reinforces the long-standing relationship between Baker Hughes and Petrobras, with the Blue Marlin serving since 2008 and the Blue Orca since 2023.

Earlier this month, Baker Hughes won a contract to supply main liquefaction equipment for NextDecade's Rio Grande LNG facility's Train 4 in Texas, US.

The contract was awarded by Bechtel Energy.
