TotalEnergies, in partnership with Chevron, has commenced production at the Ballymore offshore field, approximately 120km off the Louisiana coast in the US Gulf of Mexico.
The field is operated by Chevron with a 60% interest while TotalEnergies holds a 40% stake.
The field, launched in May 2022, boasts a gross production capacity of 75,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and 50 million cubic feet of gas.
This output is tied back to Chevron's Blind Faith floating production unit.
Situated in the Mississippi Canyon area, Ballymore operates in around 6,600ft (2,000m) of water roughly 160 miles (260km) south-east of New Orleans.
The field is part of Chevron's strategic plan to achieve production of 300,000 net barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd) from the Gulf by 2026.
The Ballymore project leverages existing infrastructure and standardised equipment to optimise development costs and minimise emission intensity.
This development marks Chevron's inaugural venture into the Norphlet trend of the Gulf.
TotalEnergies exploration & production president Nicolas Terraz added: “The start-up of Ballymore will increase TotalEnergies’ production capacity in US deep water to more than 75,000boepd and contribute to the company’s targeted hydrocarbon production growth of over 3% in 2025.
“The US is a major market for the deployment of our integrated energy model, which combines low breakeven and low emissions oil and gas projects with LNG and integrated power developments.”
Chevron has been actively expanding its production in the Gulf since mid-2024.
The company has launched production at the industry-first Anchor project and the non-operated Whale project.
Additionally, it has commenced water injection at its Tahiti and Jack/St. Malo facilities to enhance output.
The Ballymore field is estimated to hold potential recoverable resources of 150 million barrels of oil equivalent gross over its lifetime.
TotalEnergies has also entered into an agreement to supply 400,000 tonnes per annum of LNG to Energia Natural Dominicana (ENADOM), a joint venture between AES Dominicana and Energas.
