Energy services provider Expro has secured a three-year contract from Woodside Petróleo Operaciones de México (Woodside Energy) for the Trion deepwater oil and gas development offshore Mexico.

As part of this agreement, Expro is set to provide cementing services and tubular running services (TRS) for the project.

This project marks a milestone as Mexico's first deepwater oil production facility, indicating a pivotal moment in the region's energy development.

This contract is expected to enhance Expro's footprint in the country's deepwater operations.

The company is setting up a new hub in Tampico, contributing to local employment and economic growth. Woodside Energy has its shore base and office in the area, from where it will manage operations.

The energy services provider will bring its differentiated well construction technologies to the Trion project, providing a comprehensive solution from top drive to target depth.

The services under the contract encompass TRS casing, completion, and drilling support, along with the supply of casing accessories, cement heads, and the innovative Skyhook system.

Expro's strategy focuses on driving cost effectiveness, optimising well performance, and ensuring operational reliability throughout the lifespan of the project.

Expro well construction vice-president Jeremy Angelle said: “With our extensive track record and a reputation as a trusted provider of TRS solutions, we are proud to play a key role in this world-class development.

“This project represents an exciting opportunity to showcase our innovative technologies on a historic deepwater development, and we look forward to building a strong, long-term partnership with Woodside in Mexico.”

The Trion field is situated in the Perdido Fold Belt, around 180km off the Mexican coastline in the Gulf of Mexico, with water depths reaching approximately 2,500m.

As a joint venture between Woodside Energy and Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX), the project is set to achieve its first oil by 2028.

Earlier this year, Expro had also won multi-year TRS contracts with two other operators in the Gulf of America.
