Fugro, a Netherlands-based company specialising in geological data, has secured a contract to conduct a comprehensive site characterisation programme for Italian energy company Eni's deep-water gas project in the Eastern Mediterranean.

This project is pivotal for Fugro in the region and aligns with the Republic of Cyprus' goal to establish itself as a regional gas producer and exporter, improving energy security and affordability in Europe.

The agreement will utilise Fugro's offshore and deep-water geophysical and geotechnical capabilities, in addition to its environmental services.

The geodata acquisition for the project is set to begin in the third quarter of 2025 (Q3 2025).

With operations dating back to 1962, Fugro has a footprint in 52 countries and employs 11,219 people globally.

The company is known for providing insights from geodata – mapping, modelling and monitoring both man-made and natural environments.

Earlier this month, Fugro announced its largest project to date in the Asia-Pacific region, supporting the development of a deep-water gas field in South East Asia.

The company signed a letter of award to execute a site characterisation programme that encompasses onshore, nearshore and offshore geotechnical and geophysical survey services.

Furthermore, Fugro recently resumed several projects in the US related to hydrocarbons and liquefied natural gas.
