Jade Gas begins 2D seismic programme at Mongolia gas project

The survey aims to delineate coal seams to improve location and direction of the upcoming pilot production wells.

Gas exploration company Jade Gas has started a 2D seismic programme at its Tavan Tolgoi Coal Bed Methane Project (TTCBM) in south Gobi, Mongolia.

The 2D seismic survey is expected to further augment Jade’s extensive data set obtained through its exploration activities in the Red Lake area.

In a press statement, Jade Gas said: “All regulatory and access requirements have been met, with local Mongolian seismic operator, Geosignals, mobilising crew and equipment, including vibroseis units and wireless recording equipment, from Ulaanbaatar to the TTCBM Project site in the South Gobi region of Mongolia.”

The primary objectives of the 19-line, 105km survey are to delineate the coal seams to assist with geo-steering the upcoming production wells in the target seams while maximising contact with the coal and de-risking the wells by identifying potential geological hazards.

It also aims to better understand the structural architecture of the entire Red Lake area and identify potential zones of seam thickening where resource concentration is anticipated to be higher.

It will also involve integration of the successful core hole drilling in the north of the area to extend limits of the field from the current 246 Bcf1 unrisked Gross 2C contingent resources.

Jade executive director Joe Burke said: “The data captured under this seismic programme is an important step to assist our technical team as they continue planning for the upcoming pilot production drilling later this year.

“The company has delivered outstanding gas performance results from the Red Lake gas field, and as we move forward with larger scale works, Jade continues to demonstrate the near-term and significant clean energy potential for Mongolia and our potential customers.”
