Saipem has secured an offshore contract in Saudi Arabia under an existing long-term agreement with Aramco, identified as a contract release purchase order valued at approximately $500m (€424.28m).
Under the contract, Saipem will be responsible for the engineering, procurement, construction and installation (EPCI) of a 48in trunkline at the Safaniya oilfield.
The trunkline project encompasses nearly 65km of offshore and 12km of onshore pipeline work, along with associated subsea facilities.
Offshore operations will employ Saipem's construction vessels currently positioned in the area.
Fabrication tasks are set to be performed at Saipem Taqa Al-Rushaid Fabricators in Dammam.
The project execution will draw on Saipem’s experience in implementing strategic pipelines and offshore infrastructure, leveraging advanced engineering capabilities while adhering to rigorous safety, quality and environmental standards.
Saipem stated: “This new award reinforces Saipem’s long-standing presence in Saudi Arabia. It additionally further consolidates its long-standing relationship with Aramco, confirming Saipem’s capability to deliver integrated, high‑quality solutions for complex offshore developments.”
Operated by Aramco, the Safaniya field is said to be one of the largest conventional offshore oilfields globally in terms of both recoverable reserves and production capacity.
Situated in the Arabian Gulf, approximately 260km north of Dhahran, the Safaniya oilfield has the capacity to produce as much as 1.3 million barrels of Arabian heavy crude daily.
The oil and gas field was discovered in 1951 and has been operational since 1957. It measures 50km in length and 15km in width and spans an area of roughly 750km².
As of December 2018, it was estimated to hold more than 34 billion barrels of recoverable oil equivalent and more than five trillion cubic feet of gas in recoverable reserves. The field is operated through more than 600 wells and a network of offshore platforms.
In December 2025, Saipem secured two offshore contracts in Saudi Arabia under its current long-term agreement with Aramco, valued at around $600m.
