SLB secures contract from Petrobras for ultra-deepwater wells in Brazil

Completions work is expected to commence in mid-2026.

SLB has secured a contract from Petrobras to deliver services and technology for up to 35 ultra-deepwater wells in Brazil's Santos Basin.

The project involves wells from the second phase of the Atapu and Sépia fields, which target oil and gas reserves located beneath thick salt layers nearly 2,000m below sea level.

Under this contract, SLB will provide advanced electric completions technologies and digital solutions to support real-time production intelligence and enhanced reservoir management, enabling Petrobras to optimise the extraction of these resources.

SLB production systems president Paul Sims said: “This will help Petrobras drive greater reliability, system uptime and production performance in those fields - supporting Brazil’s energy security and economic growth ambitions.”

Completions work is expected to commence in mid-2026, incorporating technologies from SLB’s completions portfolio, including Electris high-flow-rate interval control valves designed for improved recovery and production control in complex high-rate wells.

The award follows a competitive tender process and builds on an earlier Petrobras contract secured in 2024 to SLB’s OneSubsea joint venture, covering subsea production systems and associated services for the same fields.

SLB is a global technology company with a presence in more than 100 countries. It is focused on the oil and gas sector, scaling digital solutions, decarbonising industries, and supporting new energy systems.

Earlier this month, SLB’s Methane LiDAR Camera was approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency as an alternative test method for methane detection.
