Australian gas company Tamboran Resources (Tamboran) has selected John Wood Group (Wood) to work on its proposed Northern Territory LNG (NTLNG) project.
The contract will see Wood undertake the Concept Select Engineering phase of the project at the Middle Arm Sustainable Development Precinct (Middle Arm) in Darwin, Australia.
During this initial engineering phase, the technical and financial feasibility of the proposed 6.6-million-tonne-per-annum (mtpa) liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant will be assessed.
The phase is expected to be complete in the first half of 2024 and will be followed by the start of pre-front-end engineering and design.
Tamboran Resources managing director and CEO Joel Riddle said: “Our partnership with Wood in Darwin aligns perfectly with Tamboran's commitment to working with top-tier companies including APA Group (pipelines), Helmerich & Payne (drilling), bp and Shell (LNG), to ensure a seamless and high-integrity new LNG development brought to market as quickly as possible.
“Having been granted exclusivity over the Middle Arm site less than 50 days ago, we are keen to demonstrate our commitment to commercialising the company’s significant gas resources in the Beetaloo Basin via the East Coast gas market and international LNG.”
The contract scope covers the study of the proposed three-train concept, the selection of LNG liquefaction technology including the review of renewable-powered e-drives, infrastructure for carbon capture and storage, site configuration, and preliminary cost projections.

Last month, Tamboran signed two non-binding LNG supply agreements with bp and Shell.
As per the agreement, bp and Shell will each buy up to 2.2mtpa of LNG, which will be supplied from the NTLNG project.
