Ukrainian forces hit Russian oil platforms amid ongoing conflict

The Lukoil-operated platforms, V. Filanovsky, Yuri Korchagin and Valery Graifer, are used to extract oil and gas.

Ukrainian military forces have reportedly targeted three Russian drilling platforms in the Caspian Sea, according to a statement from Ukraine's General Staff, reported the Kyiv Independent.

The platforms, operated by Lukoil, one of Russia's major oil companies, are the V. Filanovsky, Yuri Korchagin, and Valery Graifer sites, which are used to extract oil and gas.

The Ukrainian Special Operations Forces (SSO) conducted the strikes, reporting direct hits and ongoing assessments of damage.

In addition to these strikes, Ukrainian forces reportedly targeted a Russian Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile system in the occupied regions of Luhansk Oblast and various other military assets, according to the same statement.

The platforms affected are believed to contribute to Russia’s military efforts by supplying fuel to its army.

Oil and gas exports constitute a significant portion of Russia's federal budget, crucially supporting Moscow's ongoing campaign in Ukraine.

Further reports indicate that Ukrainian forces also attacked a warehouse and technical support facilities of Russia's 49th Combined Arms Army near Novotroitske in Kherson Oblast. This army group represents a primary Russian force in that region.

While the Kyiv Independent has reported these developments, it has not independently verified the claims made by Ukraine's military.

Throughout 2025, Ukraine stepped up its attacks on Russian oil infrastructure inside Russia and in occupied regions, using domestically produced drones as a key element of its strategy.

In December, similar drone strikes were executed by Ukraine’s SSO against a Russian patrol ship and an oil platform at the Filanovsky oil and gas field in the Caspian Sea.
