Vår Energi boosts Gjøa field production with low-pressure project

Production increased due to system modifications on the Gjøa platform, including changes to the compressor systems.

Vår Energi has announced an increase in production and recoverable volumes at the Gjøa oilfield in the North Sea with the initiation of the Gjøa low-pressure project.

The field, located 50km north-east of the Troll field, has seen an increase in production from 35,000 to 41,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boepd).

Vår Energi said the production increased due to system modifications on the Gjøa platform, including changes to the compressor systems.

This enabled an extended and higher rate of production from the wells, boosting the remaining recoverable volumes by 6.3 million barrels of oil equivalent (mboe).

Vår Energi COO Torger Rød said: “This is a great achievement. By using off-the-shelf technology, we are not only boosting production and remaining recoverable volumes from the Gjøa field, we are also prolonging the economic lifetime of the other producing fields Duva, Vega and Nova that are tied into the Gjøa platform.

“This is a win-win situation for the producing fields and the development projects in the Greater Gjøa area.”

The platform modifications enable flexible operations and are aimed at boosting production from all associated fields, stated the company.

They was carried out as part of a planned maintenance shutdown to lessen the impact on daily operations.

The low-pressure production began in September.

It aims to extend the economic lifespan of Gjøa by two to three years, with an expected payback period of under six months.

The project was executed by Rosenberg Worley with concept studies by Aker Solutions.

Vår Energi operates the Gjøa licence with a 30% stake, alongside partners Petoro with 30%, Harbour Energy Norge with 28%, and OKEA holding the remaining 12%.

Earlier this year, the company and its partners announced a gas and condensate discovery in the Vidsyn prospect in the Norwegian Sea.
