US-based oilfield services company Weatherford International has secured a three-year contract from Petrobras for tubular running services (TRS) in Brazil.

The scope of the contract, worth $147m (783.63m reais), includes the deployment of Weatherford’s technologies.

Weatherford’s Vero system offers automated make-up and evaluation for connection integrity and data assurance.

Its Multi Slip System allows for the running of mixed casing strings without changing slips and facilitates large-diameter assemblies' passage into wells.

The Flush Joint Elevator eliminates lift plugs, improving safety and efficiency in tubular handling.

Additionally, the StringGuard technology provides autonomous prevention of dropped strings, enhancing operational safety.

Weatherford president and CEO Girish Saligram said: “This award shows the strength of our tubular running services portfolio.

“We are proud to continue supporting Petrobras with innovative technologies and highly skilled teams that deliver safer, more efficient and more reliable operations.”

Weatherford and Petrobras have collaborated for more than a decade, focusing on advanced technologies and safety.

The new contract is said to strengthen their partnership and affirms Weatherford’s position in tubular running solutions.

Earlier this year, Weatherford signed a memorandum of understanding with AIQ, an Abu Dhabi-based AI company.

The collaboration aims to integrate Weatherford’s software and hardware solutions with AIQ’s AI-driven systems to optimise production workflows, reduce downtime and improve operational efficiency.
