By Matt Farmer

UK-based oil company BP has announced it will give the US government access to its supercomputer to help in the fight against Covid-19.

It has joined a consortium of 31 members donating computing power, including IBM, Microsoft, Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud.

The consortium is using its 418 petaflops of processing power to model how the Covid-19 coronavirus reacts to different drugs and environments, as well as processing scientific publications related to the virus.
