American Petro-Hunter has acquired a major working interest in an additional 8km² of land in Payne County, Oklahoma, US.
The newly acquired ‘Ripley Prospect’ is located in a key area of a horizontal drilling play where over 100ft-thick sections of the Mississippi Formation are being exploited by regional players deploying laterally drilled horizontal wells.
The firm will focus on the 8km² Ripley Prospect block as part of its 2011 development plan and will drill five horizontals on 1km² parcels.
The addition will increase American Petro-Hunter’s holdings at the North Oklahoma project to a total of 13km².
American Petro-Hunter president Robert McIntosh said the new drilling combined with the existing lands encompassing both Woodford and Mississippi prospects has allowed the company to secure sufficient acreage to drill many horizontal and vertical wells in 2011.
