Royal Dutch Shell and Total have stopped oil production in Gabon following an indefinite strike by Gabon’s National Organization of Oil Workers.
The strike action was called on 31 March 2011, because the government did not stop the use of foreign labour in the oil industry.
Total spokesperson Phenelope Semavoine said that operations at the Gamba field were stopped to ensure safety at the site.
Shell operates several crude fields in Gabon, including the Rabi-Kounga field, which accounts for nearly two thirds of the country’s production, according to Bloomberg.
