DCP Midstream is to build a new 110 million cubic feet per day natural gas processing plant and high-pressure gathering system in Colorado, US.

The new $270m LaSalle plant will increase the firm’s position in the Denver-Julesburg basin, where it owns and operates seven natural gas processing plants with a total combined capacity of 400 million cubic feet per day.

The gathering system will be expanded to provide services to producers in the Niobrara Shale development, north-west of DCP’s current footprint.

The plant and associated gathering system are scheduled to enter service in the middle of 2013.

DCP Midstream’s northern business unit president Bill Waldheim said the Denver-Julesburg Basin continues to reinvent itself with the new phase of oil-driven development.
