Pembina Pipeline Corporation has shut down its Moosehorn gathering pipeline, which lies 3km north of its Swan Hills Terminal and Pump Station in Canada, due to an oil spill.
According to the firm, 1,300 barrels of crude oil was released into the muskeg bog area and an unnamed creek, but oil has not entered any named waterways or sources of drinking water.
Pembina started the investigation on the spill after detecting a volume imbalance and initiating air and ground investigations.
The firm contained the spill by installing booms and weirs, and isolated the section of the pipeline to reduce any further potential impact.
The source and exact size of the spill is under investigation.
