Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries (Orpic) has selected Honeywell’s UOP / Foster Wheeler Solvent Deasphalting (SDA) process technology to convert heavy crude to low-contaminant deasphalted oil at its refinery in Sohar, Oman.
The SDA process separates heavy vacuum residue by density and molecular weight to produce a low-contaminant deasphalted oil that is used in the production of valuable transportation fuels, petrochemical products and asphalt.
The new unit, which is expected to start up in 2015, will process 2.5 million tonnes per year of heavy crude to increase the refinery’s production of petroleum products.
